Material Girl
ON THE GO...

Madonna's new album, entitled "Ray of Light" (see album cover to your left) will hit stores March 3. Expect a more electronic/dance sound from Ms. Ciccone this tim e around. The first single and video, "Frozen" should hit radio in mid-February. Dance remixes by New York City DJ Victor Calderone and Stereo MC's are forthcoming as well, along with rumored remixes from Junior Vasquez and Tricky. The single will also be released on March 3, with a maxi-single dropping on March 17. Frozen" (the cover of the single is available here) is written by Patrick Leonard ("Like A Prayer," "Live To Tell," "I'll Remember" and so forth) and Madonna and produced by Madonna and William Orbit. The video for the track is directed by Chris Cunningham. The clip was shot in California's Mohave desert. According to rumor, the clip is heavy on special effects and uses special camera lenses. This is the final track list for "Ray of Light" (according to "ICE" magazine among various other sources). "Drowned World (My Substitute For Love)" "Swim" "Ray Of Light" "Candy Perfume Girl" (was used during a Versace runway show last fall, there are no soundclips currently available) "Skin" "Nothing Really Matters" "Sky Fits Heaven" "Shanti/Ashtangi" "Frozen" (If you are itching to hear the track, tune in to just about any European radio station and it's bound to come on. Check out Zheng Wang's Madonna page for more information.) "Power Of Goodbye" "To Have and Not to Hold" "Little Star" (written for Lourdes, as per ICON) "Mer Girl" It is unknown exactly how much input (if any) previously mentioned collaborators Babyface, Rick Nowels and Marius Devries will have on the album. We'll have to wait and see. It is confirmed that Patrick Leonard did write some tracks with Madonna that will be on the album ("Frozen" is one of them). And in movie news... Madonna will co-produce and star in "Recycle Hazel." The will co-produce the film with Geoffrey Blake and Kris Wiseman... Also, she will co-star in the AIDS drama "The Red Door" with Stockard Channing and Rod Steiger. Shooting is slated to begin this April or May... In addition, there have been rumors that she will appear in a Jekyll and Hyde type film called "Imbalance." Concerning the "Imbalance" project, Madonna's spokesperson has no comment. And MTV News reports that: "the Material Girl is planning a tour to support her new album "Ray Of Light" due out in March..." Of course, just because MTV said that she plans to do a tour, that doesn't necessarily guarantee that she will tour. Cross your fingers. Freddy DeMann has officially stepped down as Madonna's manager. DeMann is Co-CEO of Maverick Records with Madonna and has, over the past 14 years, devoted more of his time to Maverick. Caresse Norman (who has been co-managing Madonna for the past year with DeMann) and Cliff Burnstein and Peter Mensch, who head the New York-based Q Prime firm will now take over co-managing Madonna. Norman will focus more on the film side of things, while Burnstein and Mensch will head up the music side. Q Prime is best known for their skills with Metallica and Def Leppard. DeMann became Madonna's manager in 1984. He successfully managed Michael Jackson in his "Thriller" era before moving on to Ms. Ciccone. Miramax Films has signed Madonna to co-star in the film version of the Broadway musical "Chicago." Goldie Hawn has already been cast. "Mr. Showbiz" reported that John Travolta has also been in talks to have a role as well. In addition, Nathan Lane and Bette Midler have been linked to roles in the film. No director has committed to the project, though David Fincher ("Seven," "The Game" and numerous Madonna videos) has been mentioned as a possibility--along with just about every other director under the sun. Miramax co-chief Harvey Weinstein hasn't fessed up on any more details (most likely because he doesn't have any more to reveal). Recent chart Info: "You Must Love Me" fell off the chart, but was certified gold (500,000 copies shipped), it peaked at #18 and spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart--but made up for its cruddy chart placement by winning the Best Original Song Academy Award. "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" fell off the chart, it peaked at #8 and spent 16 weeks on the chart. It was Madonna's 30th top ten single. "Buenos Aires" was never commercially available in the U.S., but it did peak at #3 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play chart. Evita-The Complete Motion Picture Soundtrack" spent twenty-nine weeks on Billboard's 200 Album Chart. It peaked at #2 for two weeks. It has been certified double platinum (2,000,000 copies shipped). Expect "Froz en" to debut on the Hot 100 chart around the middle of March. Give me feedback.
